Official Summary
(The following is the official description of “Surge Towards You” from Lezhin. It is provided here solely for reference. All rights belong to the original author and publisher.)
Cheong-ho is a national swim team member who has been struggling with poor records. As an alpha, his physical condition could be improved greatly through sex with an omega, but he has a fear of omega pheromones. His hopes of being a top swimmer seem to be sinking, but that all changes when he meets Yi-rim, an omega whose pheromones don’t give off any scent. Yi-rim is only too happy to help Cheong-ho out, and thus the two of them start a purely physical relationship. It’s almost like they’re a match made in heaven. But…why is it so hard for them to close the distance between each other?
✨ 1. Introduction
While the main story is great, it was actually the side story that left the strongest impression on me (lol). The plot is solid, but the baby in the side story? Way too cute—it almost made me want one!
Among ABO webtoons, “Surge Towards You” stands out for focusing solely on the secondary genders of the main couple. Whether the supporting characters are Alphas, Betas, or Omegas is barely mentioned. The top, Yeom Cheong-ho, has a childhood trauma linked to Omega pheromones and can’t tolerate their scent. Coincidentally, the bottom, Dan Yi-rim, is a scentless Omega. A fated match, right?
If it were any other couple, they probably would’ve gotten together right away. But Cheong-ho and Yi-rim take turns chasing each other—first Yi-rim pursues Cheong-ho, then it flips. It’s not just steamy; their emotional growth is also well-written. The ending is satisfying and angst-free. Sure, there are some heart-tugging moments, but nothing that lingers too long. Overall, it’s a smooth, feel-good read.

🧡 3. Why I Fell in Love With It
Here’s what made this story stand out for me:
1. Strong Supporting Characters
There aren’t many side characters, but each one adds real value. They appear at the right moments and support the main storyline.
For instance, the guy who makes Cheong-ho jealous never crosses the line—he’s kind, but not a love rival. Zero unnecessary drama, just clean storytelling.
2. Dan Yi-rim’s Bold Flirting
Proactive Omega bottoms are rare, and Yi-rim is the best kind. He flirts first, confesses first, and never backs down, even after rejection.
He keeps using honorifics even after they get together, which is both respectful and cute. And when someone else tries to hit on him? Instant shutdown. Love it.
3. Yeom Cheong-ho’s Integrity
Cheong-ho is an elite athlete with world-class talent, but his trauma blocks his performance. When Yi-rim offers himself as a way to overcome it, Cheong-ho refuses—he won’t use someone like that. That’s exactly why Yi-rim falls for him.
🎯 4. Ratings
🎨 Art – ★★★★★
• Style:
Season 1 is in black-and-white and gives off a bit of a Japanese manga vibe. The art was solid from the start, but the heavy use of chibi scenes made the overall composition feel a bit simplistic.
In Season 2, the comic switches to full color, and the upgrade in visual richness is dramatic—Cheong-ho’s hotness level basically doubles overnight.
• Character Design:
The line work is detailed but not heavy-handed. Muscles and body proportions are on point—especially Yi-rim’s skating poses. They look like they came straight from reference photos.
• Paneling:
Smooth and easy to follow, with no confusing jumps.
• Chibi Art:
Super adorable. Yi-rim’s chibi version especially made my heart melt.
📖 Story & Pacing – ★★★★☆
The plot and side story are both solid, but the last 10 episodes of the main story felt a bit rushed and hard to follow.
Don’t get me wrong—good stories make us feel all kinds of emotions. Even if I’m upset, I’ll accept it if it fits the narrative. But here, some emotional transitions weren’t clear, which broke immersion for me.
Here’s what happened: Yi-rim’s pheromones suddenly become scented, so he distances himself from Cheong-ho to protect him. Cheong-ho then chooses Yi-rim over his swimming career. That made sense.
But then everyone starts blaming Cheong-ho like he messed up? Side characters begin pushing him with vague “growth” lines. Suddenly, Cheong-ho manages to push through training and competitions without any medication, as if his trauma just vanished into thin air. It felt too abrupt and unconvincing, especially since the story never shows him truly overcoming that issue. Anyway, he returns to the pool, and Yi-rim cries tears of joy.
The emotional payoff just didn’t land as well as it could’ve.
💬 Iconic Line
지금의 저는…청호씨 취향인가요?
Yi-rim shows up at a formal event in a sleek sponsor outfit and boldly asks:
“The way I look now… am I your type, Cheong-ho?”
Cheong-ho literally spits out his drink. 10/10 scene.
📚 5. Korean Phrase Breakdown: What Does “취향” Mean?
In the line “지금의 저는…청호씨 취향인가요?”, the word 취향 means “taste” or “preference,” especially in the context of romantic or physical attraction.
🈯 Translation:
“Am I your type?”
✔️ Bonus expressions:
• 취향 저격 – Totally my type / Hits my taste exactly
• 내 취향이야 – This is so my thing / Just my style

🟦 6. Who Should (or Shouldn’t) Read This
✅ You’ll enjoy this if you…
• Love sweet, flirty bottoms
• Want a wholesome ABO romance
• Are a sucker for baby cameos
🚫 Maybe skip it if you…
• Need airtight story logic
• Prefer cold, dominant Alpha tops (Cheong-ho is more of a soft-hearted sweetheart—don’t be fooled by his serious face)
🔚 7. Final Thoughts
Rating: ★★★★ for the main story / ★★★★★ for the side story.
The characters are lovable, the art is consistent, and the overall vibe is warm and healing. Recommend for anyone craving a cozy ABO webtoon with just the right amount of fluff and feels.
